Assembly and set up
Gently extract the microscope from its packaging and position it on a stable, flat surface to begin your scientific explorations. Carefully detach the protective plastic covers from the eyepiece holders on the microscope's head, and place the eyepieces into their designated holders to prepare for viewing. Opt to enhance your setup by inserting the eyepiece adapter into the trinocular camera port atop the microscope, allowing for the addition of a third eyepiece or the option to mount an eyepiece camera (camera not included). Locate the power adapter, attach it to the microscope, and plug it in. Activate the microscope by pressing the power button located on the back of the base.
Using the microscope
Power on the microscope and adjust the illumination intensity control wheel to set the lamp to its lowest brightness setting, ensuring optimal viewing conditions.
Securely clip a slide into the slide holder on the stage, readying it for examination. Utilize the X-Y translational control knobs on the right side of the stage to maneuver the stage front to back or shift the slide holder left to right. Center the specimen precisely over the bulb for optimal illumination.
Adjust the binocular eyepieces by bringing them closer together or further apart until a singular, clear image is achieved when viewed through them. Fine-tune the bulb brightness to a comfortable intensity using the dimmer wheel to suit your viewing preference.
Initiate your observation with the lowest power objective lens, the 4X objective, ensuring it's centered over the stage for a clear starting point. Peer through the eyepieces and slowly rotate the larger coarse adjustment focus knob, incrementally bringing the stage closer to the objective until the image comes into focus. Upon initial image formation, switch to the precise blue fine adjustment focus knob to enhance clarity or explore the multiple layers of your specimen. Further refine image clarity with the diopter adjustment control on the eyepiece holder, achieving the perfect focus. Explore additional parts of your slide using the X-Y translational control knobs to reposition the slide holder once the specimen is clearly focused.
Enhance your exploration by rotating the nosepiece clockwise to higher magnification objectives, carefully avoiding contact with the slide, which could cause damage to the glass or the objective. If necessary, create space by using the coarse focus knob to lower the stage before switching to a higher magnification, preventing any contact with the slide.
Adjust the focusing ring on the iris aperture diaphragm to modify the image resolution and achieve your desired clarity. Manually adjust the condenser's position in relation to the stage by rotating the metal knob, customizing your viewing experience.
For optimal results with the 100X objective lens, apply the included immersion oil, elevating your microscopy experience to new heights. Start by gently rotating the nosepiece to position the 100X objective lens close to, but not touching, your specimen slide. This precision gesture ensures optimal alignment for your viewing experience. Next, carefully apply a drop of the premium-grade immersion oil provided, directly onto the cover slip. This step is crucial for enhancing image clarity and detail. With utmost care, slowly bring the 100X objective into position, ensuring it makes contact with the immersion oil. This deliberate action transforms your view into an intricate display of scientific wonder. Adjust the focus gently until your specimen emerges in stunning detail and clarity, allowing you to explore its microscopic intricacies with ease. (Important Note: After use, ensure you promptly and carefully remove the immersion oil from the objective lens and cover slip using lens paper, lightly moistened with ethyl or isopropyl alcohol for optimum maintenance. Remember, the 4X, 10X, and 40X lenses are not compatible with immersion oil usage.)
Ingeniously designed, the swing-in and swing-out filter holder resides conveniently at the base of the Abbe condenser, simplifying your setup process. Easily swing out the holder and gently place a 32mm diameter filter within it, ensuring cleanliness by avoiding any dust, dirt, or fingerprints on the filter and field lens, thus maintaining pristine optical quality.
Seamlessly Mounting a Camera Attachment
To mount your camera, insert the eyepiece adapter into the trinocular camera port atop the microscope. Attach an eyepiece camera (sold separately) directly onto it. If opting for a C-mount camera (also sold separately), simply unscrew the top ring from the adapter, transforming it into a 1X C-mount, ready for your camera's use.
The parfocality between the eyepieces and the trinocular port is expertly preset prior to shipping, usually negating any need for adjustment. However, should you require fine-tuning, the parfocal ring on the eyepiece adapter is adjustable to modify the adapter height and achieve precise parfocality.
